Since being paired up by Alma & Carol Moir at the Ilderton arena in 1997, Scott Moir & Tessa Virtue honed their skills on the ice at Ilderton Arena for many years. The "beautiful blue" building (as Scott calls it) is almost in Scott's family home backyard, a place where he and his 3 brothers all learned to skate under the guidance of their mother and aunt. Scott initially intended to improve his skating to make him a better hockey player, Tessa was at the arena as part of the CanSkate program. Although they no longer train in Ilderton, it will always be home-ice to the world famous duo.

To commemorate their gold medal win in the 2010 Winter Olympics the town honoured these incredible athletes by renaming a park, dedicating the new splash pad and installing signs on the arena facade and the 4 entry points into Ilderton.
